Maps On Maps

Privacy policy

Last updated October 23, 2026. Applies to the Maps On Maps apps for iPhone, iPad, and Android, and to mapsonmaps.com.

Maps On Maps has no accounts, no ads, no analytics, and no tracking. We don't sell or share your information. This page explains the little that leaves your device and why.

What stays on your device

Your searches, recent searches, settings, a place you set to search from, and how many searches you've used today are saved on your device only. Deleting the app (or clearing the site's data in your browser) removes them.

Your location

If you allow it, the app uses your location to find places near you and show how far away they are. Your location is only used while you use the app. When you search, the spot you search from is sent with the search (see below). We don't keep a history of where you've been.

Searches

In the iPhone and iPad app, searches run on Apple Maps: what you typed and the spot you're searching from go to Apple, as described in Apple's privacy policy, and never to our server or Google.

In the Android app and on the website, when you search, what you typed (for example "coffee"), the spot you're searching from, and how many results you want go to our server at mapsonmaps.com, which asks Mapbox for matching places (or Google Places, if Mapbox can't answer) and sends the results back. Suggestions while you type go the same way. We don't save your searches on the server. Mapbox and Google receive the search as described in Mapbox's privacy policy and Google's privacy policy.

In the iPhone and iPad app, suggestions while you type come from Apple Maps too.

On the website, a place you type into "A place I set" is looked up the same way as a search. In the apps it's looked up by your phone's own address lookup (Apple or Google).

The daily search limit

The app makes a random ID the first time it runs. It isn't linked to you, your device, or any other app. Each search sends this ID and your device's date so our server can count searches per day. The server also counts searches per IP address so the limit can't be dodged. These counts are kept for a few days and then deleted.

Maps

The iPhone and iPad app shows Apple Maps. The Android app and the website show Google Maps, which loads map tiles from Google; Google sees the request, including your IP address and the area of the map, as described in Google's privacy policy.

Directions open in Apple Maps, Google Maps, or Waze, whichever you pick in Settings, with the place you chose.

Hosting

mapsonmaps.com and our server run on Cloudflare. Cloudflare handles each request (including your IP address) to deliver it and protect the site, and keeps short-lived logs for a few days to help us fix problems. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Share links

When you share a map, we save it on our server and give you a short link to it. The map holds your searches, the spot they ran from, the name of a place you set, and the places found. If you searched from where you are, the spot is rounded to about 100 meters unless you turn on "Share my exact location" in Settings. A place you set is shared exactly unless you turn off "Share set places exactly." Anyone you give the link to can see that. The saved map isn't linked to you or your device. After 30 days we delete the places found from it. The searches and the spot stay, so the link keeps working and searches again when it's opened. A year after the map was last shared, we delete it and the link stops working. If our server can't be reached, the link holds the whole map itself and nothing is saved.

Feedback

"Send feedback" opens a form hosted by Google Forms. Anything you write there, including an email address if you choose to give one, is stored in Google Forms and only used to answer you and improve the app.

Children

Maps On Maps isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
